How to get to Juneau, Alaska

By Air

Juneau is primarily accessed by air through the Juneau International Airport (JNU), located just 8 miles from downtown. There are multiple daily flights connecting Juneau to other parts of Alaska and the Lower 48.

  • From Anchorage or Fairbanks: Flights are available year-round via Alaska Airlines.

  • From Seattle: Direct flights from Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) typically take about 2 hours.

  • Charter flights also connect Juneau to Gustavus, Haines, Skagway, and other Southeast communities.

By Ferry

Juneau is a major port on the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). While there are no roads connecting Juneau to the mainland, vehicle and passenger ferries arrive from other Inside Passage communities and the road system in Haines or Skagway.

  • The Juneau Ferry Terminal is located in Auke Bay, about 14 miles from downtown.

  • Ferries run to/from Haines, Skagway, Sitka, Petersburg, Ketchikan, and Bellingham, WA.

By Cruise Ship

From May through September, Juneau is one of the most popular cruise ship ports in Alaska, welcoming hundreds of thousands of passengers each season. Ships dock right along the downtown waterfront, just steps from shops, restaurants, and tour departures.

  • Cruise lines include Holland America, Princess, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and others.

  • Excursions such as whale watching, flightseeing, glacier trekking, and guided hikes can be booked directly from the port.

Getting Around

  • Downtown Juneau is walkable, with most attractions within a few blocks.

  • Capital Transit provides affordable bus service throughout the city.

  • Taxis, rental cars, and shuttles are available at the airport and ferry terminal.
