How to Get to Wrangell, Alaska

Despite its remote island setting in Southeast Alaska, Wrangell is relatively easy to reach thanks to regular air and ferry service.

By Air

  • Wrangell Airport (WRG) – Located just outside of town, served daily by
Alaska Airlines with direct flights from Seattle (seasonal), Ketchikan, Petersburg, and Juneau.
  • Regional carriers like Island Air Express and charter services also connect Wrangell with surrounding communities.

By Ferry

  • Wrangell is a regular stop on the
Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), which links Southeast Alaska towns by ferry.
You can board from Ketchikan, Petersburg, or Juneau and enjoy a scenic voyage through the Inside Passage.
  • Vehicle transport is available on AMHS ferries, making this a great option for road trippers.

By Cruise Ship

  • Wrangell sees fewer cruise ships compared to Juneau or Ketchikan, but
UnCruise Adventures and other boutique expedition lines often include Wrangell on their itineraries.
  • Smaller vessels allow for more intimate wildlife excursions and cultural experiences.

By Road

There are no road connections to Wrangell from the Alaska highway system. All access is by air or sea.
