How to Get to Tok, Alaska
By Car
Tok sits at the crossroads of the Alaska Highway (AK-2) and the Tok Cutoff toward Glennallen and Anchorage. Nearly all road travelers entering Alaska from the Canadian Yukon Territory pass through Tok.
- From Fairbanks: Take the Richardson Highway (AK-2) southeast to Delta Junction, then continue east along the Alaska Highway to Tok (about 3.5–4 hours, 205 miles).
- From Anchorage: Drive northeast on the Glenn Highway (AK-1) through Glennallen, then take the Tok Cutoff (AK-1) to Tok (about 6.5–7 hours, 325 miles).
- From the Canadian Border (Yukon): Tok is 93 miles west of the Port Alcan border crossing on the Alaska Highway, roughly 1.5–2 hours of driving.
By Air
Tok has a small public-use airstrip, Tok Junction Airport (6K8), primarily serving general aviation, air taxis, and charters. Commercial flights connect through:
- Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) – about 205 miles northwest, with daily flights from Anchorage, Seattle, and beyond.
- Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) – about 325 miles southwest, Alaska’s largest airport and major international gateway.
By Bus or Shuttle
Seasonal shuttle services and tour buses travel the Alaska Highway route between Fairbanks, Anchorage, Whitehorse (Yukon), and Tok. Travelers should check availability in advance, as schedules vary.
