Barrow (Utqiaġvik) is one of the most remote communities in the United States, located on the Arctic Ocean at the northernmost point of Alaska. Reaching this destination requires planning, as there are no roads connecting Barrow to the rest of the state.

 

By Air

The only reliable way to reach Barrow is by air. Commercial flights operate daily from Anchorage (ANC) to Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport (BRW). Alaska Airlines is the primary carrier offering year-round service. Regional flights may also be available through carriers like Ravn Alaska.

By Sea (Summer Freight Only)

During the summer months, barges and supply ships reach Barrow via the Arctic Ocean. These shipments are primarily for freight and fuel and are not available for passenger travel. There is no ferry service or cruise docking for general tourists.

No Road Access

There are no highways or drivable routes into Barrow from anywhere in Alaska. All transportation of people and goods must be arranged by air or barge. Local transport within Barrow includes taxis and personal vehicles adapted for Arctic conditions.
