How to Get to Valdez, Alaska
By Car
Valdez is accessible year-round via the scenic Richardson Highway (AK-4).
From Anchorage, the 305-mile drive takes about 6–7 hours. The route follows the Glenn Highway (AK-1) east to Glennallen, where you turn south on the Richardson Highway toward Valdez.
From Fairbanks, the 364-mile drive takes about 7–8 hours along the Richardson Highway south through Delta Junction and Glennallen before reaching Valdez.
Along the way you’ll encounter dramatic scenery, including Thompson Pass, waterfalls, and glaciers.
By Air
Valdez Pioneer Field Airport (VDZ) is located just a few miles from downtown.
Ravn Alaska provides scheduled flights connecting Valdez with Anchorage. Charter flights are also available year-round.
