Tanana Lakes
Tanana Lakes sits just outside Fairbanks and is one of the easiest places to spend time on the water without going far. It’s a developed recreation area, but it still holds onto that Interior Alaska feel with open space, trees, and wide views.
There are multiple lakes within the area, along with maintained trails, picnic spots, and a designated swimming area. In the summer, it’s a mix of everything — families at the beach, people fishing along the edges, kayaks and paddleboards out on the water.
It’s also used for events and gatherings, so it has a more active feel compared to some of the quieter lakes nearby. Still, there’s enough space that you can find your own corner and not feel crowded.
Tanana Lakes isn’t about being remote or rugged. It’s about being accessible and easy, while still giving you a solid outdoor experience right near town.
