Easy & Scenic Trails

Nugget Falls Trail
A wide, flat gravel trail leading to a dramatic waterfall beside Mendenhall Glacier. Great for families, strollers, and photography.
Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area

Rainforest Trail (North Douglas)
Gentle trail through mossy temperate rainforest with interpretive signs and views of the beach and ocean at the end.

Moderate Hikes

Perseverance Trail
A well-maintained gravel trail following an old mining road through forest and waterfalls. Accessible from downtown Juneau.
Gold St Trailhead

Mount Roberts Alpine Loop Trail
Begin with a tram ride or hike up from town, then enjoy a scenic loop at the top with panoramic views and interpretive displays.
Mount Roberts Tramway upper station

Herbert Glacier Trail
A mostly flat 4-mile trail through forest and across streams, leading to a viewpoint near Herbert Glacier.

Adventurous or Challenging

Mount Juneau Trail
Steep climb offering breathtaking views of downtown Juneau, Gastineau Channel, and distant peaks. Best for experienced hikers.
Basin Road Trailhead

Mount Roberts Trail (from base)
Challenging hike starting from sea level and rising through forest to the tram terminal and beyond. Connects with alpine trails.

West Glacier Trail
More technical trail with roots, rocks, and elevation gain — rewards include closer views of Mendenhall Glacier and access to the ice caves (at your own risk).
