How to get to Cordova, Alaska

Cordova is a roadless community—you can’t drive into town—but it’s still accessible year-round by air or sea

By Air

  • Alaska Airlines operates daily commercial flights between Anchorage (ANC) and Cordova’s Merle K. (Mudhole) Smith Airport (CDV).

  • Charter flights are also available from other towns across Southcentral Alaska.

By Ferry

  • The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) provides ferry service from Whittier and Valdez to Cordova via the M/V Aurora or M/V Kennicott, depending on the season and schedule.

  • Passenger and vehicle service is available, but reservations are strongly recommended—especially in summer.

No Road Access

  • There are no connecting highways to Cordova. Visitors driving to Whittier or Valdez must continue via ferry.

  • Once in Cordova, local transportation includes taxis, rental cars, and walking or biking within town.
