By Car

Homer is the southernmost point on Alaska’s highway system and can be reached by driving the Sterling Highway (AK-1) from Anchorage. The scenic drive is approximately 220 miles (about 4.5–5 hours) and passes through mountain valleys, rivers, and charming towns like Soldotna and Ninilchik.

• From Anchorage: Follow AK-1 South through the Kenai Peninsula. The road ends in Homer at the base of the Homer Spit.
• From Fairbanks or Interior Alaska: Drive south via the Parks Highway (AK-3) to Anchorage, then continue along the Sterling Highway.

By Air

Homer is served by Homer Airport (HOM), located just 3 miles from downtown. Daily flights are available from Anchorage (ANC) via small regional airlines. Flights are typically 45 minutes and operated by carriers such as:

  Charter flights are also available from other towns on the Kenai Peninsula and Southcentral Alaska.

By Ferry

Homer is a port of call on the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). The ferry terminal connects Homer to Kodiak, Seldovia, and other coastal communities.

By Cruise or Water Taxi

While not a major cruise port, Homer occasionally receives small expedition-style ships. The town is also a launching point for water taxis across Kachemak Bay to Halibut Cove, Seldovia, and Kachemak Bay State Park.
